The first Annual Report of the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission covering the period November 2014 to December 2015.
On behalf of the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission, I am delighted to present our first Annual Report to the Oireachtas. The Commission was established in November 2014 as a single legal entity and is an amalgamation of two legacy bodies – the Equality Authority and the Irish Human Rights Commission. The most significant change to the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission is its new level of institutional independence, with all members of the Commission appointed by our Head of State, President Michael D. Higgins, and accountable to the Oireachtas. As a result, this Annual Report is submitted in accordance with our new statutory obligation under section 28 of the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission Act 2014 and will be laid before the Houses of the Oireachtas in June 2016………
