Professor Ray Murphy

ray-murphyRay Murphy is a Professor at the Irish Centre for Human Rights at the National University of Ireland (NUIG) as well as serving on the faculty of the International Institute for Criminal Investigations and Justice Rapid Response. Ray is a member of the Executive Committee of the Association of Human Rights Institutes. In 2014, he was a visiting scholar at Al Haq, A Palestinian Human Rights Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO). Previously he was Vice-Chair of the Executive Committee of Amnesty International (Ireland). He also conducts training on behalf of the International Committee of the Red Cross, the International Institute for Humanitarian Law at San Remo (Italy) and the Pearson Peacekeeping Center, Canada. Ray is a former Captain in the Irish Defence Forces and he served as an infantry officer with the Irish contingent of UNIFIL in Lebanon in 1981/82 and again in 1989. Ray graduated from NUIG with a B.A. in Political and Legal Science and an LL.B, King’s Inns with a B.L., Trinity College with an M.Litt and from the University of Nottingham with a PhD in International Law.
