Climate change poses an immediate and pervasive threat to the natural environment and societies throughout the world, including Ireland.
This video introduces our Policy Statement on a Just Transition (published April 2023), which includes:
Human rights and equality standards must form an integral part of our transition towards a low-carbon country. We must ensure that a move towards a climate neutral economy happens in a fair way, leaving no one and no place behind.
Just Transition is a vision-led, unifying set of principles, processes, and practices that build economic and political power to address climate change in a way that is just and equitable. The EU Just Transition Mechanism is a key tool to ensure that the transition towards a climate-neutral economy happens in a fair way, leaving no one and no place behind. It provides targeted support to help mobilise approximately €55 billion over the period 2021-2027 in the most affected regions, to alleviate the socio-economic impact of the transition.
