Press Release: IHREC (Designate) welcomes the passing of the IHREC legislation by the Oireachtas

The Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission designate (IHREC Designate) today welcomed the passing of the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission Bill 2014 by the Oireachtas.

Mr David Joyce, Acting Chairperson of the IHREC (Designate) said: "The Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission (Designate) welcomes the passing of the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission Bill 2014 today by the Oireachtas. As a Commission we are committed to delivering on the mandate given to us by this legislation to work for the promotion and protection of the human rights and equality of everyone in Ireland."
Mr Joyce continued: "The IHREC Designate is also pleased that the recruitment process for both the Chief Commissioner and the Director of the IHREC is underway and we look forward to their appointment."

The Irish Human Rights Commission and the Equality Authority will merge to form the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission. The Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission Bill 2014 provides for the legislative basis for the new Body.
