IHRC and NIHRC make recommendation to Irish and British Governments re Omagh Bombing

The President of the Irish Human Rights Commission, Dr. Maurice Manning, and the Chief Commissioner of the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission, Monica McWilliams, met yesterday with representatives of the Omagh Support and Self Help Group in connection with the bombing in August 1988 of Omagh town centre and related matters.

The purpose of the meeting was to inform the Group that both Commissions have decided to recommend to the Irish and British Governments that a serving or retired judge of international standing be appointed to review all available material on the bombing and associated matters and to determine, in the light of the review, whether it would be appropriate to institute a cross border public enquiry.
