Observations on the Employment (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2017

The main provisions of the Employment (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2017 are amendments to two existing acts, the Organisation of Working Time Act 1997 and the Terms of Employment (Information) Act 1994 (with a consequential amendment to the Workplace Relations Act 2015). These amendments cover different aspects of the employment relationship, and some aspects of enforcement. Some of the provisions seek to address a number of the problems that can be experienced by workers who do not have a full-time contract for predictable or stable hours of work.

These legislative observations have been drafted in accordance with the Commission’s statutory mandate to keep under review the adequacy and effectiveness of law and practice in the State relating to the protection of human rights and equality, and to make recommendations to the Government to strengthen and uphold human rights and equality in the State.
