The Equality Authority will continue to be an Independent Voice

The Board of the Equality Authority met today and noted with regret the resignation of the Chief Executive Officer, Niall Crowley.

The Board unanimously expressed its appreciation of the dedication, commitment and
passion of the Chief Executive to the equality agenda in Ireland and Europe over the last decade.

Under his leadership the principles of equality and anti-discrimination have been firmly established across business groups, trade unions and community organisations.

Niall Crowley leaves an impressive legacy of work of which he can be immensely proud and the Authority wishes him well in whatever he chooses to do in the future and hope that he will continue to contribute to the cause of equality and the combating of discrimination.

While acknowledging the difficult staffing and budgetary circumstances it now faces, the Authority is committed and determined to work effectively and independently for the elimination of discrimination and promotion of equality. To this end, the Authority will, in the next few days, appoint an acting Chief Executive.
