This is an Information Notice in relation to the cookies that are used on the website of the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission (IHREC) – www.ihrec.ie

What are cookies and why do we use them?

Some cookies are placed by IHREC (known as ‘First party cookies’) while others are placed by third parties because we use their service on our website eg Vimeo for video content (‘Third Party cookies’).

Cookies can remain on your computer/device only for the duration of your browsing session ie once you close your browser, not necessarily when you leave the IHREC website. After your browsing session, these cookies are erased (known as ‘session cookies’). Alternatively, cookies can remain on your computer or device after your browsing session has ceased (known as ‘persistent cookies’).

IHREC uses cookies for the following purposes:

  • To enable our website to work properly.
  • To record your cookie preference.
  • To enable you watch videos
  • To analyse your visit to our website.

We have placed links to our Twitter account on the website and as a result of this, Twitter set cookies which can track you and send you personalised suggestions

What kind of information do cookies collect?

Cookies collect the following types of information about you:

  • Cookie browser data: cookie identifiers, time/date, pages viewed, whether and to which cookies you have consented;
  • Device data: device type, screen resolution, operating system version, browser information like its version and basic settings;
  • Log data: Time and duration of usage of the website and search data;
  • Location data: Data about your country & county of access as proclaimed by your device;
  • Analytical data: Data about your usage of the website ;
  • Preference data : language preference; and
  • In some cases your IP address may be collected for example by Twitter which they delete after 30 days.

How long does my consent last?

Your consent will last for 6 months from the date you last provide it to us using the cookie tool on the website. After this period, the cookie tool will automatically treat your consent as withdrawn and request it again.

You can however, change your cookie setting at any time, by clicking on the “Cookie Settings” link at the bottom of each page on the website.

In addition you can block or delete cookies in your browser, usually found in a settings or preferences tab in your browser.

These are necessary cookies to make our website usable by enabling basic functions such as page navigation, preservation of user session, cookie consent management. The website cannot function properly without these cookies.

Description: This cookie is set by the cookie compliance solution from OneTrust. It stores information about the categories of cookies the site uses and whether visitors have given or withdrawn consent for the use of each category. This enables site owners to prevent cookies in each category from being set in the users browser, when consent is not given.

Name: OptanonAlertBoxClosed
Description: This cookie is set by websites using certain versions of the cookie law compliance solution from OneTrust. It is set after visitors have seen a cookie information notice and in some cases only when they actively close the notice down.

Description: Cookie associated with sites using CloudFlare, used to speed up page load times. According to CloudFlare it is used to override any security restrictions based on the IP address the visitor is coming from. It does not contain any user identification information.

2. Functional Cookies

These are cookies set by third parties whose technology allows us to present a variety of videos on our website. These videos promote and explain what we do in IHREC. We ask for your consent to enable these cookies.

3. Analytical Cookies:

We use Google Analytics cookies to help us to improve our website by collecting and reporting information on how people use our website eg most popular pages, duration of visits, number of visitors. We ask for your consent to enable these cookies.

Description: This is a pattern type cookie set by Google Analytics, where the pattern element on the name contains the unique identity number of the account or website it relates to. _gat_UA_  appears to be a variation of the _gat cookie which is used to limit the amount of data recorded by Google on high traffic volume websites.

Description: This cookie name is associated with Google Universal Analytics – which is a significant update to Google’s more commonly used analytics service. This cookie is used to distinguish unique users by assigning a randomly generated number as a client identifier.
