We may invite an organisation to develop an Equality Action Plan. 

We also have the power to prepare an Equality Action Plan for an organisation. 

What is an Equality Action Plan?

An Equality Action Plan sets out the steps an organisation will take to address issues:

  • identified in an Equality Review
  • relating to equality of opportunity
  • an aspect of discrimination.  

Equality Action Plans can relate to:

  • equality of opportunity generally, or
  • a particular aspect of discrimination

An organisation must complete the actions they have committed to in the Equality Action Plan. 

If an organisation fails to implement an provision of an Equality Action Plan, we may issue a substantive notice, requiring them to implement the plan. A substantive notice is a formal legal notification that requires a response.  If an organisation fails to comply with the notice, it is a criminal offence. 

What organisations have you invited to complete an Equality Action Plan?

In 2022 we invited 7 local authorities to prepare and implement an Equality Action Plan on the provision of Traveller accommodation and services. These local authorities had previously completed Equality Reviews and were invited to develop Equality Action Plans based on the findings of these reviews.
