As the National Human Rights Institution, we monitor human rights in Ireland. We provide recommendations and inform monitoring bodies’ assessments of how Ireland is meeting its obligations under international human rights conventions.

There are three systems that Ireland report under for human rights:

United Nations

We provide recommendations to the UN under:

Council of Europe

We provide engage with the Council of Europe about the: 

  • European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR)
  • European Social Charter (ESC)
  • Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (GREVIO)
  • Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings (GRETA)
  • European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI)
  • Framework Convention on Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law
  • Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities (FCNM)
