As a public body, the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission is required under section 22 of the Protected Disclosures Act 2014 to publish an annual report in relation to the number of protected disclosures made to it in the preceding year, and the action taken in response to any such protected disclosures.
No protected disclosures were made to the Commission in the period 1 January 2016 – 31 December 2016.
One protected disclosure was made to the Commission in the period 1 January 2015 – 31 December 2015.
The Chief Commissioner was briefed in relation to the protected disclosure, and a Commission solicitor met with the individual concerned with a view to discussing the issues raised. Thereafter counsel was instructed with a view to providing advices in respect of the subject matter of the protected disclosure, and a summary of these advices was furnished to the Chief Commissioner and the Director.
