Correspondence from IHREC Director, Deirdre Malone, to Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration, Jim O’Callaghan, regarding the General Scheme of the Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation (‘SLAPPs’) Bill which aims to transpose the EU Anti-SLAPP Directive into Irish law. The letter attaches IHREC’s recommendations on specific matters where we consider the General Scheme should be amended in order to ensure compliance with the Anti-SLAPP Directive, and where it would be appropriate to go beyond the minimum requirements of the Directive.
