Mr Justice John MacMenamin is a graduate of UCD. He was called to the Bar in 1975 and became Senior Counsel in 1991. He served as a Judge of the Supreme Court between 2012 and 2022 and a Judge of the High Court between 2004 and 2012.

As a Supreme Court judge, Mr Justice MacMenamin’s delivered landmark judgments in many cases, to include the Simpson case, awarding damages to a prisoner over the practice of slopping out, and Daly v Nano Nagle, which concerned the rights of people with disabilities to reasonable accommodation in the workplace.

Mr Justice MacMenamin is an adjunct professor of law at Maynooth University. In 2019, he became the judge-in-residence at DCU. He also is the current Chairperson of the Irish Financial Services Appeals Tribunal.
