Grant Scheme
€400,000 awarded to 32 projects to advance economic equality and promote compliance with the Public Sector Equality and Human Rights Duty (‘the Duty’)
The Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission has today announced the 32 organisations to be awarded a total of €400,000 in funding for projects under its Human Rights and Equality Grants Scheme 2022.
The successful projects focus on areas such as: valuing care work and supporting carers; addressing employment barriers and opportunities for migrant women in rural Ireland, and people with disabilities; building capacity of members of the Traveller community to access their accommodation rights; and supporting groups to engage with public bodies on the Public Sector Equality and Human Rights Duty.
This year for the first time, projects were awarded under two categories; the first strand providing for general and small grants and the second, new strand, giving funding for local rights-holder and community based groups of up to €5,000.
The Commission’s grants programme is now in its 7th year and to date has supported over 200 human rights and equality projects across the country.
Chief Commissioner Sinéad Gibney said:
“This allocation of funding to civil society groups, communities and voluntary groups across the country, is crucial to giving voice to those who face discrimination and inequality in our society.
“This year I’m particularly happy to see the new strand of funding allocated to locally based groups who can often be excluded from mainstream funding initiatives.
“We look forward to seeing the results of the many worthwhile projects receiving funding today, as groups all over the country are empowered to participate in creating a more inclusive and caring society for all.
