Dear Minister O’Callaghan,
As you are aware, the Joint Committee on Justice, Home Affairs and Migration invited the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission (the Commission) to make a written submission on the General Scheme of the Irish Nationality and Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2026.
In that regard, please find attached the Commission’s written submission which has also been submitted to the Joint Committee on Justice, Home Affairs and Migration.
We look forward to engaging further on this piece of legislation in line with the Commission’s statutory mandate to examine any legislative proposal and report our views on any implications for human rights or equality.
Yours sincerely,
Liam Herrick
