Re: Human rights and Equality Considerations in the International AI Summit 2026 Programme
Dear Ms Carberry,
I am writing to follow up on my previous correspondence dated 17 April 2026 regarding the inclusion of discussion and consideration of fundamental rights and equality in the programme for the International AI Summit 2026, to be held on 14 October, as part of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
I have not received a response to my letter and I understand that there has not been any wider Departmental engagement on this important issue. I am conscious that preparations for this event and the wider EU Presidency are progressing quickly. A recent press release and new website for the event include some information on the programme and speaker details and while we welcome reference to trustworthy AI and governance, this preliminary information does not reflect any consideration or discussion of fundamental rights. I would be grateful therefore if you could indicate what consideration is being had to including fundamental rights and equality perspectives in the programme of the International AI Summit.
We remain available to support any aspect of the programming as it relates to human rights and equality and look forward to engaging with you and your Department on this and wider work in respect of AI.
