Observations on the General Scheme of the International Protection Bill 2025
Legislative Observations
In this document, we provide observations on the General Scheme of the International Protection Bill 2025.
The Bill aims to replace the International Protection Act 2015 and implement the new EU Migration and Asylum Pact.
We have many concerns with this proposed legislation.
We believe that the State is in danger of introducing a system that is prone to:
- legal challenge,
- administrative dysfunction
- human rights violations
We are particularly concerned about the proposals around:
- the detention of asylum seekers
- access to legal representation and counselling
- the treatment of children and vulnerable persons
