The Commission welcomes the General Scheme on the Regulation of Artificial Intelligence Bill and the opportunity this presents to ensure that forthcoming legislation includes strong and effective fundamental rights and equality safeguards. We are concerned however that the drive to prioritise Ireland’s ‘competitiveness’ and its attractiveness to technology companies may drive policy decisions to the detriment of the protection of fundamental rights.
