The Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission extends its sincere gratitude to President Michael D. Higgins and Sabina Higgins as they conclude 14 years of service to our country.
Throughout his Presidency, President Higgins has been a powerful voice for equality and human rights, and for social justice and inclusion, consistently highlighting the dignity and worth of every person in Irish society. He has applied the values and principles of human rights and social justice to all of the main themes of his presidency, including the issues of commemoration, youth, and sustainability.
His leadership has reflected a deep belief in the values of compassion, solidarity, and respect, values that lie at the heart of Ireland’s human rights and equality framework.
President Higgins and Sabina Higgins have represented Ireland with passion, humanity, warmth and integrity, both at home and internationally. They have always displayed an unwavering commitment to building a fairer, more inclusive Ireland, one that embraces diversity and seeks justice for all.
