Chief Commissioner Liam Herrick
Liam Herrick was appointed Chief Commissioner of the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission in November 2024. Prior to this, he held the role of Executive Director of the Irish Council for Civil Liberties since 2016. He worked as Advisor to President Michael D. Higgins. He was Executive Director of the Irish Penal Reform Trust (IPRT) between 2007 and 2014. He also worked as the first Head of Legislation and Policy at the former Irish Human Rights Commission and with the Law Reform Commission. He is a former member of IHREC (2013-2017) and sat on the Minister for Justice and Equality’s Strategic Review Group on Penal Policy (2012-2014).
